  1. a U shaped trench? ha ha. and so then it would be recycled back to him. i would like to see his face when the water starts to flow back to his side further down. it is entirely possible that he does not know he is doing it. an understandable phenomena that one's perception would end at a property line but strange.

it would be a shame if u had to waste valuable time drafting a letter telling him how you had already had a minor slip on his wet leaves and how you fear worse. but the letter might be a good thing because maybe you could tell him that if he wishes to reduce his insurance risk you would be happy to provide him with a compost bin he can fill and which you will remove the compost from once a year.

but to actully fend it off, maybe an embankment? like a d**e. maybe of rocks. if the cracks between the rocks had dirt, there would probably be a wide array of plants that would grow in it.

to find plants, it is like usual, u can search 'zone __' 'certain type of plant (like shade or drought or native or groundcover or rock wall or evergreen, etc)')

or and water curbs can get made from cement. maybe even a cement curb that attaches to a fence? it's probably more expensive than a plastic landscaping border but long lasting of course and also no maintainence and also might be thinner than an earthen d**e..like if you were trying to conserve space on a narrow walkway or driveway.

a plastic landscaping border would be thinnest. made of heavy grade plastic and meant to stop tree roots. is often used partially buried; so part is below ground as a root barrier/is securely anchored by dirt BUT then part extends above ground as a miniature fence/flower bed border. it can fail after years under certain circumstances so might not be best to actually anchor it in cement or such?
