  1. Many 'baby-monitors' use an old cordless phone frequency range, 49 Mhz. These can be picked up by a local scanner, but they have to be fairly close. There isn't much else to listen to in that area, so chances are, they are listening to more interesting frequencies, like police, fire, etc., which are in the 100, 400, and 800 Mhz. range.(The range of these monitors is very low, maybe 200 feet., at most.)

  2. yes, baby monitors transmit on very common channels.

Baby monitors have high gain microphones, a scanner listener can hear almost any activity in your home.

  3. Yes, it is possible.  Also, even worse, there is nothing you can do about it.  On all electronic equipment that uses public frequencies you will see either on the machine itself or in the instructions that came with it a disclaimer from the FCC that essentially says that other things can interfere with it and it is subject to the reception by other equipment and that's just the way it is.

So yes, if you broadcast anything over the airwaves it is subject to being picked up by anyone and everyone who is listening.

  4. Possible depends on the frequency it runs on some items run on a higher or lower frequency that a scanner will pickup. But even if a scanner will pick it up they would have to be sitting in your drive way because the monitor doesn`t transmit very far.
