Question:

My neighbors tree is entangled around my telephone cable?

My telephone cable runs from a telephone pole in my back alley an runs over-head to the back of my house. My neighbors tree which is growing almost along side the telephone pole is about 20 feet tall and already has branches which are tugging on the cable. We had high winds last night that could have caused the tree to bend more and have torn the line down from either the pole or my house.

It costs about $150 - $200 to drop the line and have the phone company move it. I would rather just cut the tree back so they don't interfere with the phone line.

What rights do I have and what can I do to that tree?

  1. the phone company has a easement where thebpole is sitting....where i live thats a easy fix...i would just call them and they would trim the tree back

  2. I don't know where you live, but I have the same problem here, in Ohio.  I called the phone company and I was told I would have to wait until the tree snapped my lines, then they would come out. Kinda dumb, but that's what they said.
