  1. firstly, inform your insurance, tell them you an eye-witness tells you it was a neighbour who failed to notify you, they will suggest you get the police involved.

Before you do that, talk to the neighbour, mention the information given you by an eyewitness.

Just because you "think" he won't admit it is no reason not to follow the normal course of action.

"obviously he is going to deny hitting it" is a bit of an assumption, we are not all liars you know.

If he is going to lie, let him lie to the police, insurance companies and a magistrate and not jsut you.

  2. Just call the police.  They will look at the vehicles in the neighborhood & find similar damage on the other car.

You need to do it SOON before he gets the car fixed & gets rid of the evidence!

When the cops find him, he will get a ticket for the accident AND for leaving the scene of the accident.

Plus, his insurance will cover your vehicle.

If they don't find the guy, call your insurance company either way.  Your insurance will cover your vehicle.

  3. As per previous answer, I'd speak to the alleged offender first - just tell him you've had someone knock on your door and say they've seen him hit your car. Be polite.

If he denies it, apologise, go home & report it to the police. Just give them the facts, including details of your witness. Whether he wants to get involved or not, it's the correct thing to do.

  4. I don't quite understand this one. Is your neighbour the one who hit it and the eye witness or was it one neighbour who hit it and the other one who saw him do it?

  5. I would speak to the offender first, it is always a good idea to have a friendly relationship with local residents, as they can inform you of any accidents, incidents, and general chat.

The Postman decided he didn't want to get involved, but he may be happy to provide a short description of the person in question, so they can be identified. He does not want anything to do with the situation because the person who caused damage to the vehicle may have a go at him or intimidate him for informing you of the incident.

It is always best to report it to the Police first, just for file purposes, then you can always add to it later, or they can after making the neccercery enquiries. When you call them, they will send the forensic examiners over, and they will check the car over.

There may be vital DNA, or similar evidence relating to the offender, such as the colour of the car's paint and bodywork.

    GDJ.

  6. Call the Police?  Well, i always liked someone with a sense of humour!

You do NOT have an eye witness. The Postie has said that he does not want to get involved and no one can force him to.

You will be lucky if the Police even come and view the damage.

No one was hurt and it would be reported to them some time after the event. Basically, they will not be interested!  Believe it!

  7. call the police, that way you at least have a chance to have your car repaired by the responsible party.  If you don't, you will have to pay for the repair yourself.  Which option do you think most people would choose?

  8. If your neighbour hit the car, get the police to investigate the other drivers car the see measurements of how high the dent/scratch is and if it matches the other car.
