Question:

My neighbour is harassing me?

My neighbour has installed 3 cameras directed into my property (front and back) one is supposed to be hidden, but I can see it. He has also told me he has audio. He is doing this as he said to protect himself from me, I have never step-ed onto his property or anything else. Can he legally do this? I like my privacy, thats why I put up a privacy fence. Nothing he is recording is on his own property.

Thanks

  1. He is trespassing by taking the time to put up camera and audio on your property withut permission.  He is also invading your privacy.  You should immediately call the police about this situation.

  2. show him your a$$.....sounds like a real jerk!

  3. consult an attorney, there may be right to privacy violations

  4. Basically if it can be seen in public it's not an invasion of privacy. Just like if I were walking down the street and could see into your yard or front porch, or inside your window I am not invading your privacy nor am I harassing you. If I can see over your privacy fence from a window in my home, I am not invading your privacy.

Is installing a security camera harassment? No.

As long as his cameras are on his property and picks up part of his property that he is trying to protect he is not doing anything illegal. And without seeing what the cameras pick up, how can you say that the cameras are not recording his property?

Also, if this neighbor went through the trouble of doing all that, I'm not certain that you haven't done something to warrant this sort of reaction since I have never encountered people who have gone to that step who didn't have good reasons for installing cameras around their homes. Trespassing on property isn't the only reason why people get security cameras for their homes.
