First, 40 MG seems way too high to me!!!?? But he is in his first year of middle school and is actually declining in subjects like Language Arts and Algebra. Notes on teh progress reports say "Needs to focus more" "Does not Study" "Needs to be more organized." Isnt this what Folacin is supposed to help with...and with 40MG how could it not? I read posts on here where kids are improving with 15-20 MG. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Very frustrated. Thanks

  1. Has he been tested for milk and wheat alergies? Some people can't process certain proteins in milk and gluten. It causes a build up in their system and leads to ADHD type symptoms. A doctor can run a test to check for the protein in urine. Do a search on Yahoo news. They just posted an article about it.

  2. I think it's actually 'Focalin'...so far, it is probably the only medication my son has not tried yet to control his ADD.  As far as the dosage, different medications have different efficacy levels.  That may be the lowest dose to start him on for that particular drug.  Remember, the patient's body weight has to be taken into consideration also.  Hope that helps, and keep your chin up and keep fighting the good fight...I have been since my son was two years old; he's  eleven now.

  3. YES my son was on focalin for ADHD 35 mg and for him it was the wrong meds i would talk to your doctor about switching him to somthing else, it is abviously not working if he is getting reports like that from school. there are other meds out there. i hope this helps...=) good luck to you.

  4. Folacin is Folic Acid which is takin by pregnant women to help prevent neural tube defects.  I have never in my life heard of someone taking it to help improve organizational skills or focusing or ADHD for that matter.

Perhaps you have the medication name wrong or something.

  5. Now I have heard of Seroquel, adderrall, but never no Folacin, somethings have gone terribly wrong somewhere

  6. i would change meds we have been on 4 different ones before we found the right one and kids can become immune to these drugs and they may not work anymore

  7. There could be a number of reasons why it isnt working.  One could be that he is taking some other medication that is preventing the focalin from being absorbed through the stomache.  Another could be that the dosage isnt right.  Another could be that he isnt getting the training at home to get organized.   ADHD kids need to have set schedules of what needs to be done and the times to do them in.  They also need to be checked over and make sure that they are getting everything done properly and reminders to turn the work in.  It is a constant struggle for ADHD kids.

  8. my nine year old son has adhd & can't take any meds for his adhd because of the fact that he was born with a ehart condition & asthma  & i chose to keep him on his astma meds because  ithought it was more important for him to be able to breathe & live as normal a life as he can with the fact that he has multiple disablities plus his asthma &heart condition.i just try to be patient with my son & help with his school work as much as possible.
