it all depends on  what he likes but giving him a gift card would be fine so he can pick out something of his own choice. :)

Lots of boys that age are into video games.

Why not do what I do with my brother? Get him a card and write him a note like, "I could have picked something out for you, but I think you're old enough to know what you want." And put the $30.00 in there. You can put it in there in cash, or in the form of a gift card to a place you know he'll be able to use it (Game Stop, Walmart, etc). He'll get exactly what he wants, and get to feel kind of grown up by having his own money when he goes out to shop.
