  1. by land, no...they will not need passport but they will need to pick up a tourist visa if they will be traveling further south than the border area. they are available at the border, just ask where to get one. to get back to the states they will need to show a birth certificate and photo id. if the kids are not traveling with both parents they will need a notarized letter from the absent parent thats its cool to leave the country.

  2. Yes, if you are flying out of or into the US you'll need passports, lately to the return of passports have been fairly quick or you can pay extra for the passports to arrive a lot faster.

  3. They need passports if they fly and photo I.D and birth certificates. by land or sea.

If they go they will need to have a parent or guardian with them.

As well as "Written Notarized Permission " from both parents and a guardian as they are minors

They cant fly out without a passport.

They will need photo I.D. and a birth certificate to return

  4. Yes they do need an official US passport to travel to Mexico and back.

  5. See site below and read section on MINORS under "Entry Requirements " for info on the notarized letter they must have.  Children unter 18 are not required to have the photo I.D., but I feel safer if they do, so I took my boys to the DMV and got the state I.D. cards to carry as well as birth certificates.  Passports are needed to FLY now and for land travel also starting in June 2009.
