My nerdiest thought experiment yet?

Question

So you're in the library, and you open up a book. Along with the dust, a genie flies out. "Oooooh, thanks for freeing me," it says. "In reward, I offer to impart to your mind all recorded knowledge in five fields of study."

Do you accept? If so, what do you choose and why? How might you be obligated?

Well my nerdy friend that is cool!  But alas it would be limited because the genie only gave me the latest information and nothing new after that its moment of freedom.  So I would not accept the genie's current proposal.  

Instead I would accept another fulfilled wish.  That I have the ability to comprehend and apply all knowledge.   Whether it comes from both man or nature or God.  And that the knowledge came in the past, present, and future.

Why else would I change it?

So that the knowledge will be beneficial for me and my fellow man.

Do I accepted....all that knowledge imputed, could be an over load.  I would have to really think about it.

If I did accept it, would the knowledge then be anymore than what the is written on the pages from my 5 books,-- because knowledge requires a certain about of actual experience or experiment.  I could chose to know the wonders of the world but unless I actually went there, walked there or climbed there would I understand the particulars (sight, sounds, touch, smell etc)  of the knowledge imparted to me on the subject.  Certainly I would have a mental and keen conception, but the actual experience/experiment would be the void of the full course required for understanding of the knowledge.  One can not have the answer to the math problem without working out the steps involved in the sum total...even if the knowledge is instantaneous.

Depending on the knowledge one would receive, provided they would truly understand it all, the obligation is to be true to the self and use such knowledge in a way that will not harm, no deface humanity.

Having said this, I think that I would by-pass the reward, and put the genie back into the book.

About the wishes i can't understand if i will going to choose one among the five fields or will i have all the five??!!

Anyway if ever i will only given one, i will choose to learn everything about SCIENCE because it compasses everything...And after gaining all the knowledge about science,,I will make all the people to know our true origin,purpose and what is beyong the universe..And what do we really call this place we are inhabiting and who is/are responsible for the existence of all the things ,,

^^ Neat question. I would accept. I would choose Philosophy, History, Religion, Medicine, Languages (lol I'm not sure if these are actually fields of study :P but those are what I would choose)

Absolutely I would accept.  First would be parenting.  I have 4 children and a 11 month old grandson and I'm only 39!  I could use all the help in that department I can get, lol.  Secondly would be economics.  I would have said finance but I want to know the state of the economy and all the economical theories to figure out the best way to earn and invest my money.  Third would be world languages.  Right now I am limited to English and German.  How awesome and productive would it be to speak all the world's languages.  Fourth would be sociology.  I will know all the world languages so I think it is only appropriate for me to know the societal makeup of different cultures.  Last but not least I would want to know history.  History so that I can decipher the mistakes made in the past and even recent past and use this information to help the future.  With all this acquired information I would  run for president and I would truly bring difference and change!
