  1. Most of the time the neutral safety switch is in the shift controller.  You might be able to take apart the shift lever and replace the switch.  I have been on boats that shift lever has to be in the right spot.  The points on the switch could have corrosion on them.  Good luck

The Neutral Safety Switch is in the Shifter Control Box.  I is usually part of the shift control cable.  You can change it or repair it yourself.  Take the contol box off the mount and open the control box up.  There are few parts inside, so make sure to make yourself a diagram of how you take it apart.  Once you have it apart you can inspect the NSS and see if it is broken.  Usually they get corroded by saltwater.  You may have the type that has a separate NSS or one that is part of the shifter cable.  Change it and you will be on your way.  You most likely have Morse Controls in the boat, You can get the parts you need at a Merc supplier or a Morse supplier.  Check out the control box name.  Good Luck.  It's easy to do.
