Question:

My new 16+ Oyster Card?

I am notoriously short, so I've never needed an Oyster card, but after June 2008 I was told I had to get one.

I got a 16+ application, filled it out, got it signed and stamped by my school and send it off.

Got my card a few weeks later with "YOU HAVE NOT BEEN GRANTED FREE TRAVEL" written on it. I know it is supposed to be free, and yet I have to pay now.

Why would I have been denied it? What are the possibilites, they were so vague, they didnt even tell me what was wrong.

I'm in full time education, going to sixth form next year, and live in Dartford currently.

  1. You need to speak to Transport for London to find out why.  They should have written to you when they sent the card outlining why they turned you down & perhaps informing you how to appeal their decision, ring them & find out why they turned you down but as Carina has said perhaps it's because you're resident in Dartford, according to this link,

16-17 year-olds who are not resident in London or not in full-time education must have a valid 16+ or 16-17 Oyster photocard to travel at child-rate on buses, trams, the Tube, DLR and London Overground.

  2. is it because you're not in Greater London?
