Question:

My new budgie has a twisted toe? [pics]

Is my bird it in pain or was it just born like that?

Is there anything i should do?

  1. The  pictures are not very clear.  The injury looks to be older and probably too late to correct.  Maybe another bird bit it's toe when he was a baby. If the toe or  toenail  becomes red and/or inflamed or he seems to be favoring  that foot then you should probably see a vet.  Sometimes I have had birds with toe injuries because a string in the nesting material wrapped around the toe and cut off circulation.  Once the toe has healed as much as it is going to,  I will take a pair of clippers and cut off the dead brown part of the toe a little further down from the healthy pink  part of the toe.    


  2. I don't think your bird is in pain. A lot of birds are born with twisted toes and even missing toes . The only thing you really have to worry about is that the bird can sit on his perch OK with out falling off. If he can do that he will be OK. If he keeps falling off take the perch away and it will have to sit on the bottom of the cage.
