My new car stereo won't work - I have to tuch a speaker wire to the power wire to get it to turn on - - It worked fine for about 30 seconds - then cut off - and to get it to cut back on - I had to retouch a speaker wre to the 12V constant wire - any suggestions on gettin git to work?

  1. i would have to say your wiring is crossed and that the head unit has moments of life in it if you keep touching the speaker wire to the power recheck all wiring


  2. I would be double checking your wiring. Then triple check your wiring.

    Touching speaker wires to power will normally blow up the internal amplifier in the stereo, so its definately not advisable. But touching a speaker wire to 12v shouldnt make the stereo turn on. Are you sure you have the right wires connected?

    Just make sure that you have wired everything correctly and get a circut tester and make sure that there is power to the ACC power wire, and also to the constant power wire.

    Oh, on the odd chance that you have a mitsubishi, just check that you are using the correct earth wire, the wire that is used for a interior light will test as an earth but will change to a positive when you switch the lights on. I must have fixed about 20 Lancers, Mirages and Magnas after people fitted new stereos.
