  1. well really the only way i know of is to buy the adams shampoo and wash it througly. Also thier is some stuff called bio spot for kittens under 5 lbs you can buy and it kills all the fleas on the cat almost instantly .I got a kitten yesterday and that worked great ! I have a 14 month old boy to take care of cant let fleas in my house

  2. you will have to use medication (frontline, advantage, or revolution, or any other medication your vet recommends). the thing you most want to do is stop the life cycle of the fleas. it will kill the eggs, larva, and the adult fleas. you must use it continually (once a month) to prevent reinfestation. a flea dip at the groomers will only kill the adult fleas at the time. the life cycle is not broken, and you will still have juvenile fleas that soon mature. and become adults.

wash the pet's bedding in HOT water often. you don't want to let these little critters moving into your house on your bed, in the carpet, on other pets. it can be a nightmare to get rid of them (i know)!

you can buy medication from your vet (expensive) or order online (half the vet price). don't try to use Dawn dish soap as a shampoo. neither you or your cat will be happy with the results

what ever you do DON'T use the flea stuff from a grocery or anything sold over the counter. no shampoos, powders, and especially NO FLEA COLLARS. they don't work and may even make your cat very sick. for more good advice, call your vet, or research the subject throughly.

  3. You have to buy flea shampoo or take them to the groomers for a flea dip.  Also give them a dose of Advantage if they are old enough.  Using Dawn or Ivory is a myth, and all it does is get rid of the live fleas.  It does not kill the eggs.  Eggs have a gestational period of 10-14 days, and new fleas can lay eggs almost immediately.  You will have to do this again in 10-14 days or the fleas will come back and lay eggs again and your problem will not be solved, just delayed.

You will also have to treat your carpet, pet bed or anywhere else your cat has been with flea powder every 10-14 days for about 4-6 weeks.  There is no easy cheap "home remedy" to fix to this.

  4. I know you are disappointed in your new friends because they came with tenants on their backs. There is a simple solution that you can use right off of the git-go that may solve the problem.

Dawn Dish wash liquid. Bathe both cats in warm water and use Dawn as your soap. It kills and defends against fleas but you have to be careful not to get it in the kitty's eyes, and just use warm (not hot) water. Rinse completely and towel dry.

Good luck...remember that you may have to get a carpet powder or spray to kill off the fleas that you missed on the cats. But once they are gone they should be under control.

Next, take them to a vet and get a prescription for "Revolution" that you can put on the back of their necks one time a month to kill all fleas and worms--including heart-worm. Best investment in your cat's health that you will ever make.
