  1. Change the substrate immediately snakes dont like aspen or any kind of evergreen bedding it could be harmful if injested. Corn snakes really like to hide and this sounds nothing out of the ordinary, you could try putting something in the cage for your snake to hide under and maybe he will hide under it.

  2. Aspen bedding is the best you can buy for a snake. Soft on the snake, holds heat well, cheap, easy clean up, doesnt grow mold. its perfect. It is 100 percent normal that it hides in the bedding! I breed snakes and all they get is aspen and they all love it, its all i buy. It seems all the corn snakes love to hide in it over any other species. Good Luck and dont worry!

  3. I wouldn't say it's good or bad, I'd say it's completely 100% normal. Most Colubrids, which a corn snake is, will hide in either their hide spot or bedding a large majority of the day. It shouldn't be that difficult to dig in the bedding to find it unless you have 3 feet of bedding. If this is annoying, a colubrid may not be a good kind of snake for you. Dont' listen to the guy above, he has no clue what he's talking about. aspen is perfectly fine.

  4. aspen bedding is the BEST for corn, king and milk snakes.  they love to burrow...thats just what they do.

  5. Hello; that is pretty normal for a Corn snake, so it shouldn't be anything to worry about. :) While some of mine will only go under the substrate if they don't have multiple, appropriately sized hides available; many Corns just seem to enjoy burrowing beneath the substrate, particularly if it is a 'loose' variety like Aspen is.

As the owner of several burrowing snakes of various species; may I offer a quick tip? If it gets annoying digging through all of the substrate to find your snake; then my recommendation is to use a pair of smooth sided tongs or hemostats like the ones you'd find for upwards of two dollars at a wal-mart type store to gently sift through the substrate to find your snake. Not only is it easier, it is also quicker and less messy. I do that when finding my Sand boas on a regular basis, and it works quite well. :)

Anyway; that is my two cents. ;)

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you.

Good luck with your Corn snake!

  6. This is why you should use aspen with corns!  They love to burrow and it is easy for them to in aspen.  They will stay on top if too warm, and burrown down toward the UTH if too cool.  Very normal and it's a good thing.  Check out the corn snake forum...
