Question:

My new engagement ring feels jagged and gets in the way, or is it a normal thing for most women?

I just got engaged on Monday and very much in love and appreciate our milestone together after 2 years. HOWEVER, I have one slight problem: my engagement ring!! It’s a princess cut ½ of a carrot (that is not the point) and whenever I wash or lotion my hands by rubbing them together, it irritates my palm as if the stone or setting is jagged around the edges.

Could it be a matter of getting used to it, because I don’t wear any rings what so ever prior? It this a normal thing for women to “feel” the edges of their engagement ring setting?

Please help

  1. I take my ring off when i put lotion on. I also just don't touch the top of my ring when i am washing my hands.I kind of curve my palm away.

  2. You may need to just get used to it.  If you take it off and run your finger around the inside is there anything poking out?  If not its probably because its something new.

When I got mine it felt like my finger was swollen nd I wanted to take it off all the time.  Now if I take it off for a moment I feel naked without it!

Don't wear it when rub on lotion or anything like that.  and if it keeps bothering you take it to the jeweler tot ake a look.

  3. It tooks me forever to get used to wearing mine! I actually managed to scratch and cut my forehead a few times and still do accidently sometimes! I have learned how to wash my hands without hurting myself and how to avoid scratching things and myself with the ring but it was weird at first.

However, if the stone itself feels rough or jagged, I would see a jeweler about that. I managed to scratch my platinum band (no idea how) and there was a big chunk out of it that I noticed when it snagged on a satin gown I was wearing for my best friend's wedding. The jeweler he got the ring from took it and polished the scratch out of it. If the STONE has issue they should be under the warranty and insurance you got, ask your fiance where to take it or have him take it himself if there is a problem with the stone or the prongs in the setting.

    Good luck!

  4. Have it checked by a jeweller to make sure the prongs are properly set.

Otherwise, I'm just sitting here feeling my rings against my other hand - sure it scratches - and sometimes catches on fine threads for example, or fuzzies - but you do just get used to it.

  5. I would give yourself a few weeks to get used to it. Diamond solitaires tend to be mounted higher than a regular ring's stones, so it will feel different and seem "bigger" on your hand. If, in a few weeks, it's still driving you crazy, take it to the jeweler and see if they can take the mounting down a little bit.

  6. It took me about a month to get use to wearing mine without scratching my arms and getting caught on everything. But it has been 6 years now and well you get use to it. Congrats by the way!

  7. I've never felt any ring do that. Take if off, and run your finger around the edge. If there are jagged edges, you need to show your fiance. That is not right.

But you might not want to lotion your hands with your ring on. It dulls the stone.

  8. Do you mean the claws?  I would take it in to the jeweller and get him to look at it.  Your ring shouldn't feel jagged.

  9. Mine is bezel set so I didnt feel jagged edges. This is the first time Ive heard someone make a comment like that about a ring, maybe you should take it in and explain this to the jeweler? Or, some people are just hyper-sensitive to new things due to random nerve crossings that give the "wrong" sensation to a stimulus.
