i got my first piggy yesterday from a pet shop at 10 wks old. She was really calm on the ride back and was sitting on my lap, sniffing around, and eventually wanted to explore around the car, and she madesounds like a squeaky dog ball. When I got her homein her 6 ft cage she immediatly started eating her apple, carrotsin her bowl, and the dry mix with lucerne. But the problem is that she hasnt drunk anyhting from her water tipper thingy. Can guinea pigs find water??

When shes in my lap she seems calm and makes little squeaky noises and thenshe sniffs about and wants to explore, or maybe just scared shitless, I cant tell XD. So when shes in y lap shes fine, but then getting her out of her cage is really difficult and shes really scared, and I dont know whether I am holding her right.

I was planning to get two piggies, but she was the only one left, and I am planning to breed with them my friends boar when they are around 5 months. Any name ideas?? She fully black abby.unusual is good.

  1. She might be drinking when you aren't looking. Definitely get her a friend since guinea pigs are so social but please, please get her a same s*x friend and do not breed.

Guinea pigs are /horribly/ overpopulated right now and there  are tons in shelters and rescues. Plus, it's never a good idea to breed pet store animals because you don't know their genetic health background generations back. It takes a lot of work to become a responsible breeder. You need a mentor, you need to learn all about guinea pig care and breeding, you need to start from healthy breeder stock... it's a big thing and it costs a lot (need to be ready for vet care for all your pigs).

So please reconsider breeding. Instead, rescue another pig to keep with this one: http://www.petfinder.com/

  2. just wanted to let you know the fruits/veggies you are feeding her are not good for guinea pigs check this out http://www.guinealynx.info/charts.html and about the handling, here is a good link about it http://www.guinealynx.info/handling.html... About the water bottle, she will eventually find it if she hasnt, but check to make sure that her water bottle is not clogged or something, that might be the reason. Oh...and guinea pigs must be housed in pairs unless you are willing to spend every waking hour with it, which is pretty hard. Guinea pigs are extremly social animals.

  3. my guinea pig didn't find her water til i put her mouth in front of it, then she remembered where it was, but a couple weeks later i put it in a different spot and she had to re learn where her water bottle was, even ater i showed her she still went back to the same corner:? make sure after they learn where it is to keep it there. lol an dif you don't have 2 piggis it would be a good idea to get a 2nd one, they are vry social animals, if you have any questions e mail me

  4. :] I have two guinea pigs. My guinea pigs were like that and still are! They can find their water of course, but the runnin around the cage thing. It's natural instinct, if something tries to grab them, they run! Just like in the wild. They will get calmer as the days go by and they get to know you. If your guinea pig continues to not drink, you can switch from a canteen to a water bowl. But I'm sure she is probably drinking while you aren't looking, or she's just not thirsty! :D Also, if they chirp or sqeak as you explained, that means they are happy or excited. If she jumps around and chirps really loudly when you are opening the bag of food, that means she is popcorning, or EXTREMELY happy! :]

    Name suggestions:

    Coco

    Oreo

    Chocolate

    Sweet Pea

    Hope this helps! :]
