  1. Im not sure what you mean by covering wall brackets with wall mounts. Just unscrew the brackets that were used to hold the speakers on. Maybe put a picture over the holes?

The normal way to cover the electrical plate is to position the speaker and it's mount so that the plate is behind the speaker and hidden by it.  You obviously want to avoid having visible speaker wire running from the wall plate to the speaker if possible.  Usually if you attach the speaker mount just below the wall plate, that works out the best to conceal the wire and wall plate.

    It may be possible to attach the speaker mount directly on top of the electrical box that is behind the plate - just make sure the mount is attached properly to the wall independent of the electrical box.  Also make sure the speaker wire is not "pinched" between the mount and the wall.
