I adopted a new kitten from these horrible trashy people with no teath. Not only does it have flees, but its a little odd. Its only been a couple of hours since we got it, but it wants to lay down and cleen its self in the litter box... is that okay? should i be worried that its not going to be litter box trained? the people we got him from said he used it at their house but who know's if they are telling the truth!

I have one other adult cat and I'm worried because he can smell her pee in the box that he wont use it?

also we found lumps on his neck, any idea's of what they could be? they dont really look like flee bites but its hard to tell through thick fur.

  1. i think it's okay for the cat to lay in the litter box. I adopted a kitten from some people and it used to play in the litter box and it was annoying but after a while it stopped. Cats will naturally do their business in a litter box, i don't think you should worry about it not being litter box trained. Not sure what the bumps might be, but it could just be because it was badly taken care of. Just clean the cat good. It should get better after a while. Just take good care of it.

  2. EEEEWWWWWW poopbelly

  3. I think it should be fine. It's probably a comfortable place for the kitten. Maybe it likes the smell.

As for being litter box trained you'll just have to wait and see. Keep an eye on her and if u see her not using the box then you'll have to train her yourself. Maybe keep her off of carpet until you know that she does use the litter box. If she doesn't you'll have to put her in it yourself every hour or so and she should get the idea.

You should also get another litter box for your male cat. He isn't used to the kitten yet and will most likely not enjoy sharing a litter box with her. It's best to just get him his own and then when they are friends you can probably just use one.

I'm not sure what the lumps on her neck could be. Maybe its just bites but I would get that checked out by a vet.

Also since she's a kitten for her flees just put a very tiny bit of flee medication on her neck. That should take care of them : )

    Good Luck!!

  4. Sometimes they just like to play in it.  Especially kittens because they don't know what it is and it moves around a lot.

  5. Lying down in the litter box is kinda like trying to take ownership. And the litter box is a big thing. So that may be something that your cat will teach him. When they meet (and it sounds like they haven't yet), she'll show him that she is dominant to him because it was her territory first.

That's one way how one of my cats showed dominance to my other one. She was claiming the litter box as her own. Eventually, she grew out of it. That's a reason why you want to have a total of three litter boxes eventually (one each per cat + one extra).

Now, you should really take him to the vet for a full check up. You don't want to find out late that he had something that he could've passed on to your cat. If they seem to have been taking such poor care of him, a full check-up at the vet should've been the absolute first thing for you to do. There, you can also ask for flea medicine, etc.

  6. Cats lay in their litter box when they are terribly stressed out. You should rescue the kitty from the litter box and put it in its own little bed. Then leave it alone for a while until it catches its breath and realizes that no one is going to eat him.

The other cat will still use the litter box. For the fleas you could give the little guy a careful bath in warm water and Dawn dishwash detergent. Just be careful not to get it in his eyes. Start from behind the neck and work down to the tail and wash off the dead fleas.

You should get your kitty in to a veterinarian--I bet those people with no teeth never went to a vet, did they?--and get a well cat exam to start your kitty on the road to a healthy life.

    Good luck. What's his name?

  7. litter box- some cats just adopt weird habits.

other cat- sometimes cats don't get along if their not  used to being around other cats.

    lumps- probably ticks

  8. No

  9. I don't know what the people with no teeth have to do with this but..

That's completely normal for the kitten to lay down in it's litter box, mine would do the same, and when I'd clean it, he'd lay in the empty box and play in it. Once Bear got used to it and knew what a litter box was for, he only used it for it's purpose.

It sounds like the kitten isn't used to having a litter box. It's likely that they weren't telling the truth about the litter box. It's not a huge deal, litter box training isn't difficult at all, there was a kitten attracting training litter I bought at PetsMart, and it worked wonders; It was in a pink bag, I will look it up in second.. Then give You the name brand. EDIT: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

    Doctor Elsey's Kitten Attract Litter

Yes, cats don't like to share litter boxes unless they've grown up together and are from the same litter.. I highly doubt Your other cat will like this.. You should get another litter box for the new kitten. This also applies to food and water dishes.

The lumps on the kittens neck are most likely from fleas. Does the kitten wear a flea collar? It might be an allergic reaction to it, or if You are applying flea medication, switch to some other brand, Frontline is what I recommend. If they are fairly large.. I would be a bit concerned.. It's possible its sarcoma, a flesh tumor, whether or not it's active or malignant, You need to keep an eye on it. A trip to the vet would be good, plus You need to make sure the kitten has all of his vaccinations as well, so Yes, again, trip to the vet will suffice.

    Good luck.

  10. its fine it might just want to get something elses scent on it, as for the lumps i would go and see a vet maybe, but dont be worried i have 2 cats of my own and they come in withall sorts, it might have had a allergic reaction to some flee drops or something....

    hope this helps 8-)

  11. I got my kitten a few months ago and she used to do the same thing when I first brought her home. I wouldn't worry about her hanging out in the litter box too much. She's probably just scared of her new environment. The bumps on the neck... mine had a bump and it was just a flea bite. Since she was so little, I had to use a flea comb dipped in soapy water to get rid of the fleas. It helped out if you want to try it. But, be sure to take her to the vet just for a thorough check-up. Good luck!

  12. I have a 3 year old cat that liked to lay in his litter box when he was a kitten.  He was an out side cat before we got him.  Our vet said he may like to do it because it feels like the dirt from the outside.  He did eventually grow out of it, but he always used his litter box.  And about the bumps on the neck.  The cat may hake knots like people get, from stress, or it may have got in a fight with some other cats and its the bites/scratch marks.  Take it to the vet to be sure..

  13. Litter boxes are like the kitten form of sandpits,  not only are they their toilets, but can be great places to sleep, play and eat **barf**

I learnt this from my 14 or so kittens Ive had over the years.  Once your kitten gets a little more class it will realise you dont lie where you p**p.

The lumps are probably ticks.  have a good look, and if they are, be careful not to pull them out too quickly or their teeth will stay in the kitten and cause abscesses.  (you could always donate the teeth to the previous owners :-)

  14. It's not odd that he's laying in it. Lots of kittens play in their litter box when they're still young. They usually grow out of it.

Cats have an instinct to use the litter box, and him laying in it now is a good sign. Your other cats smell may also make him want to use the box. Cats normally feel okay using the same box.

The lumps could be fleas, or any other kind of insect bites. Watch him to see if he's scratching, if he is, it's probably fleas.

If he's over 12 weeks, you can get a spot-on treatment. Fleas are hard to get rid of once they get in your house.

  15. Your kitten should grow out of laying in the litter box. If you are afraid your kitten doesn't want to use the litter box since the other cat's urine, you could try having two separate litter boxes, one for each cat. I would get the lumps on the neck checked out. Good luck!

  16. shes just a kitten. she needs to be taught just like a little baby. You have to flick her nose (gently though) every time she makes a mistake. It kinda hurts her but then she knows what she did wrong. You have to do this for 2 weeks and every time she does something wrong. Next tiem she won't do it because she knows what will happen if she does that specific action.

  17. i got a kitten a few months ago and it did the same thing!

    he also ate the litter!

but he quit doing that after a week, but if your kittens bumps dont go away soon i would take him to the vet. =)

  18. It is not at all unusual for a kitten or even a cat to want to be in the litter box, especially if it's a covered one.  Once I took in a pregnant stray who gave birth to her kittens in a covered litter box because it was nice and dark!

First of all, since you don't know anything about this kitten, keep it away from your other cat until you've had the kitten to the vet for a Feline Leukemia/AIDS test.

Secondly, this kitten should have her own litter box for right now to ensure that your other cat doesn't feel threatened by having to share its box with another.

Thirdly, if this kitten is 'lumpy' they are probably scabs from the flea bites.  You didn't say how old she is, but she is not too young for a bath.  IOn my rescue kittens I use a mixture of Dawn dishwashing soap and Chlorhexadrine to clear off the crud and will help her skin.  It won't kill the fleas, so once she is dry put some flea preventative on her (I like Advantage on kittens) to keep them from biting her any more.  Do not use a flea collar - they don't work and are a waste of money.

Lastly, get this girl spayed so she doesn't end up having kittens like the toothless trash you got her from.  If there is a free or low-cost spay/neuter program in your area, you might see if these yahoos will get their cat fixed so she doesn't 'litter' again and the kittens end up being dog-fighting bait or snake food.

  19. I'm pretty sure it's normal for them to sleep or do whatever in the litter box. My cat used to do that. As for everything else, like the lumps on his neck and such--- GO TO THE VET. NOW. Who knows what those are?? Take him to the vet as soon you can!!!!!!!

  20. Yes, they're flea bites. We recently got one in the same condition. Find a small warm towel or blanket that it will like to be near. constantly give it to the kitten. Soon it will want to snuggle into it. Also try to hold it close to you. It misses it's mom and is trying to snuggle to something close to her. The litter box may be an familiar smell.

  21. My cat used to do the litter tray laying too - it's no biggie.

The bumps could be flea allergy or from a fight.  Best take it to the vet to be sure.

Also, please don't do the cat nose flicking, it's cruel and unlikely to work.

  22. It is because that is where your cats goes to the bathroom. They go to the bathroom to mark there territory. So your cat thinks it is his litter box. Also your cat probably thinks that it is comfy. Oh and don't worry about your other cat it well get used to it. Same with mine! And about the bumps. When you go to the vet to get his shots. Just ask the vet. If it is something to be concerned about then he well tell you and say what to do! No worries!

  23. First of all, why would you adopt or take anything from people you describe as being horribly trashy and toothless?  Why associate with them at all?  Give the kitty a flea bath, take it to a vet for an examination, and move along.  Lying in a litter box is normal behaviour for cats.

  24. I got my cat from a shelter and had to bathe her when I got her home and was able to catch her because she hid for the first few day. She had the same kind of thing, lumps on the neck and matted fur. It all worked out though. Still don't know what the lumps were. Your kitten probably has some sort of skin reaction since she/he has fleas. As for the lying down in the litter box...if she/he was confined to a small space containing a litter box (like a cage) then it's probably just doing it out of familiarity and comfort. Good luck...

  25. he was probably abused and kept in a cage with a litterbox and he couldn't move out of the litterbox.

  26. Can you edit in a description of the lumps? Perhaps you should also google search what those lumps are symptomatic of too.

As for the rest, you'll just have to see. If anything just give it a flea collar, a bath, and hope for the best with the peeing/pooping. Just because they're not clean people doesn't mean they're not truthful, that's prejudice.

You may have to figure something if the adult cat decides to pee elsewhere - say the carpet. Punish the cats for anything they do wrong so they know what they did, but make sure to do so in a fashion that will make sure they know what you're talking about (e.g. like rubbing a dog's nose in the pee it did on the carpet).
