  1. Nathan- tuna is okay if it's packed in spring water and only occasionally cause it depletes feline taurine levels- best to use Fancy Feast  Flaked Fish and Shrimp Feast- cats love it and its good for them - understand that this should only be fed to kitty sparingly too- it costs less than tuna and has all the nutrients added

  2. Actually there are many vets and experts who feel tuna from a can is very bad for cats and should never be given.

But I've had friends who fed their cat tuna every day for 10 years and the cats did fine.

I personally don't feed my cats tuna, my vet is against it. I can't remember right off what the chemical in the tuna is that is bad for cats, but there is something in it that isn't good for them.

I'd stick to cat food, it's just safer. And some cats are sensitive to changes in their diets and will either vomit or get diarrhea when given new foods.

  3. if you give him tuna, buy the stuff in oil NOT brine,or he will puke it up,just give him a little as a treat, mackarel is much better, full of omega 3

  4. any vet will tell you never to give a cat tuna, when was the last time you saw a wild cat jump into a lake to catch a tuna? they are not good for them

  5. tuna is not bad as long as it is occasionally like once a month or so it is to only be in WATER as as matter of fact vets have told me that you are to brush your cats teeth and one of the things they suggest is tuna water. Do not do tuna in oil because the oil will give them diarrhea and they can not digest it they also make cat food that has salmon and tuna in it and try to lay off the can cat food as an everyday diet also.. my vet recomends dry cat food with can cat food as a treat as well

  6. Yes, tuna is bad.  In fact, fish is best kept out of the diet entirely.  That includes fishy cat foods, not just "human" fish.

If your cat likes fishy foods you can serve them but either as a topping only or if used as a full meal then keep it to 2-3 times per week.

If you want to offer a pinch as a treat now and then that's not bad.  But I would never use canned tuna as a meal - unless you're in extremely dire circumstances and it's a one-time thing.

  7. Tuna is ok as a treat 10% of diet - premium brand dry kibble like Royal canin, Nutro, or Science Diet would be my recommendations for the majority of the diet.

  8. well no but it would be best to get actual cat food such as iams. thats the best dry food. but don't get fancy feast cause it's loaded with bad things for you're cat
