my stereo has a whispy/raspy noise no matter what the volume, you can mask it a t higher volumes but it is very noticable on lower volumes. Is this a problem with the speakers or is it normal?

  1. Sounds like loop noise from your alternator. I'm guessing that this noise goes aways when the boat is off..?? You can buy relatively cheap noise suppresion equipment from Radio Shack that goes inline with your input power to the radio. It's most likely a high freq noise that could also be suppressed with a few cheap parts from any electronic store but would require knowledge of building filters. There not very hard but easier to just buy if you don't know the exact frequency that you need to block.

One way to verify that this is the source is turn the radio to a level that will produce the noise and then with the boat running in neutral, increase the engine RPM. You should hear a significant change in noise level and/or frequency.

    Hope this helps.
