My new monitor turns on then goes blank after a...

Question

After continuously turning my monitor on and off (this can't be good for it) for about three minutes it will finally show what's on the screen without going dark. If I leave it and the screen saver comes on it will do the same thing. Is this a power issue, hardware issue or possibly software issue?
