So I had my new TM r7 out on the range yesterday for the first time. On one particular swing I saw SPARKS fly when impacting the ball.... what the heck was that?? I thought I was seeing things but my buddy saw it too! I was hitting off the mats, using a brush tee, the driver never came in contact with any metal, so weird!! any ideas? anyone ever heard of this?? just curious.

  1. sick...probbly just static coming of the mat.

  2. brush tees actually have some sort of silicon in them when struck by titanium, produces a spark.

  3. A couple of the guys are correct. It is actually the titanium that is sparking, caused by the friction of hitting sand, gravel or stone, or perhaps another type of metal. It's most noticeable at dusk.

  4. All drivers do that.  Let's think about it.  How fast do you think that ball is coming off the face of the driver?  Call it energy transfer.  The ball compresses and explodes off the face.  I am willing to bet that it was later in the evening when it occurred and was somewhat cool outside.  It was when I saw sparks fly off my driver and I was using the Nike Forged Titanium Driver.  It's a normal thing.

I forgot to mention that the tee had nothing to do with it.  I was using a regular tee.

  5. wow those guys dont have a clue.. all of the new drivers are made of titanium and when there is any kind of friction the spark is caused... my driver does that all the time, especially when it is getting dark you really notice it

  6. The driver probably hit a small stone or a piece of sand, this will cause a spark.

  7. some of the range balls have metal inner shells maybe you hit a exposed bit of metal

  8. My idea would be dry conditions causing static electricity when the club brushed over the tee or mat.

  9. It's from the titanium metal used to make the head. It sparks easily with a something abrasive like a small stone.

  10. Since the use of Titanium for club head manufacture you will see more sparks coming from the clubhead when small stones or something abrasive is touched during impact.

Pretty neat the first time you see it happen.
