My new record player won't work! What am I doing wrong?

Here's the one I bought:

I plugged it in, and a blue light on the player came on.

I put my 33 record on the large, thick black disk/plate thing in the middle of the player.

I moved the needle to the left, over the record, until I heard a click - then I could hear a gentle humming/motor sound inside the player.

BUT the record isn't turning! I took off the record, and the big black disk in the middle of the player isn't turning either - hence the record not turning.

What is wrong with my player? What am I doing wrong?
