Question:

My new router won't connect to the internet??

Okay so I bought this new router from newegg.com(for a cheaper price, I might add lol), here is the link:

Anyways I can't get it to connect to the internet..... I know my connection is fine becuase direct connection from modem to pc works and so does my old router. I just don't get why this one doesn't, I have tried some trouble shooting to and sat there for like 2 hours trying to figure it out. I followed their guide on the disk too, it just won't connect to the internet! IT shows it is connected on the router it self too because all the lights that I have plugged in are solid, like the internet one and the wlan one. I have also tried swtiching the ethernet cables, just in case the one they sent might be broke and still nada. I am stumped here.

Oh and fyi I have Verizon DSL if that helps..

  1. Well, Are you trying to connect it to your laptop or to another wired pc because if you are you need a wireless adapter as well.


  2. Is the router configured for DHCP on the WAN port? Is it pulling an IP from your modem? Maybe there is an IP assigned on the WAN port already?  The link light means the physical layer is connected, it doesn't mean it should be ready to pass traffic.

    Otherwise, I would exchange the router, sounds busted to me, maybe a bad port.

  3. did you reboot the modem.  and while you reboot the modem go ahead and reboot the router.  and if that still dosnt work go ahead and log in to the router and check your settings. this can be done by opening up internet explorer and typing your router address . usely its somthing like 192.168.2.1  or 192.168.2.2 or something you can go to the manufactor web site and see if thats not the right address. but log in to the router and check your settings. you dont need internet to do that

  5. i think you use proxy settings to connect to your internet, you have to configure you router with those proxy settings, to do that i would advice you to call Verizon and ask them to help you configure your router.
