my new sink (hooked up by husband & friend) worked fine for about a week. a few days ago it backed up. i used drain cleaner and boiling water.. it worked a little.. but if I run too much water it backs up. so, the new dishwasher they also hooked up I decided to run a rinse cycle. (I had only used it once since the hookup about a week prior and it worked.) The rinse water never drained either. I imagine they both drain to the septic tank... which by the way... is a new, year old system with an alarm on it that is suddenly beeping all the time, could they all be connected? we know septic tank isn't full because we had it cleaned a few months ago just to check it because it was new. my husband is about to jump if another thing goes wrong in this house. any ideas??

  1. Amateur plumbers can make mistakes.

The plumbing fixtures, such as sink and washer, should be installed in accordance to the International Plumbing Code (IPC) with appropriate size pipes, fittings, vents, and traps.

Call a professional plumber to fix before sewage backs up into the house.

  2. Yes I would say they certainly could all be connected. If your alarm is going off then the tank is full. You must have either a pump out system or a gravity but why would you need an alarm on a gravity system. So the septic tank is not emptying out. If you have a sewage pump in the basement that pumps to the septic tank it cold be that which is not functioning.

Difficult to visualize the system you have. First thing to do is go out and lift off the lid and look at the septic tank. it is two compartments and only one side should be full. Then work back from there checking each component.

    Sorry best I can do.

PS. be careful looking into the tank do not get too close. people are overcome every year from gasses and lack of oxygen.

  3. Duh, yes it's the septic system call a plumber

  4. check the trap which is the curve part, something could of got in it and is blocking the hole

  5. call plumber
