i just had a baby boy.

he's 1 week and 4 days old right now.

All he wants to do though is be changed, then eat, then go straight back to sleep and sleep all the way till that routine again.

is it normal for him to sleep all the time like this?

should he be awake and active more?

  1. Congrats on the new prince. Yes it is normal. Babies will sleep 16-20hrs a day. Enjoy it!!! They grow up so fast. Mine is already 7 months...ready to crawl, getting his paws on everything!!! Best of wishes too you and your family.

  2. no...it's normal!

  3. Very normal!  Give him a couple more weeks!

  4. First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!

I think that is normal since he is new born.  Most babies are like that when they're born.  If you're really concerned about this you should ask someone who has children or a doctor.

May God bless u and you baby :)

  5. Yes he has went through alot, But I would try to keep him more awake during the day to get him to understand days and nights!  Try more in the next week!

  6. Yes very normal..I wondered the same thing...but enjoy this cause in a couple weeks you will want them to sleep more!!

  7. Usually with babies.

They sleep when your awake and wake when your asleep.

Give it another week, but, hey, it's probably normal.

  8. so normal for the nxt 3 months it's like the 4th trimester. babies r still developing and getting used to  being born is tough for them. As long as the babies eats and has wet/dirty diapers then he's ok. let him rest, sooner or later he'll be more active and staying up longer stretches.

my son is 9 week and is up longer now. congrats and enjoy in a few weeks he will be smiling at you.

  9. yes it perfectly fine it totally normal your baby hasnt developed enough to be active and plus it consently sleeps in the womb and it is only what a week old so thats the only routine the baby knows at the minute as he gets older he will progress in growth and development and start to change the same routine kk just dnt worry.

  10. Newborns will sleep an average of 20 hours a day for the first month or so. I wouldn't be too worried about it, just get sleep when you can now, once the baby figures out it can stay awake, you may not get any sleep at night! :)

  11. Newborns sleep most of the time.

  12. He's probably just growing. They seem to sleep more during growth spurts. If he's eating an wetting just fine, then I wouldn't be concerned. Just wait until he's teething, then he'll be awake all the time and you'll miss these days..lol.

Oh, and congrats! How exciting to have a new baby!

  13. aww newbie parents are the best..its soo better to be conserned than forget about it..it shows that u love ur little one!! and i wouldnt worry too much about it now my son would stay up for maybe an hour at a time and then fall strait back to sleep..he would even sleep through company and loud noises all the time..they just love to sleep!! u should notice them become more alert within the following weeks and use that time to ur advatage and play with them by talking and making funny sounds..introduce him to diffenent sights..he will soon love his daily walks! have fun they grow way too fast!!

  14. Perfectly normal!!  Think about your baby's daddy...doesn't he STILL do the same basic routine?  Boys want attention, food, and lots of sleep!

  15. That's normal! Let ihm sleep...it sucks, because you've waited so long for him to get here, then he just sleeps all the time. But believe me...soon you will WANT him to sleep more. Congrats!

  16. Hes a newborn and that is what they do.  It is totally normal for him to sleep that much.  Babies grow when they sleep

  17. It is completely normal. Try to rest when he does. He'll be awake more often soon enough.

  18. It's perfectly normal, He is still adapting slowly to the change of home.

He's very small right now, i think that when he's like a bout a month old, he'll start to be more active.

I'm no mother, and had no babies of my own, but i raised two baby brothers since i was little and three cousins (:

    and CONGRATS!!!

  19. girl dont worry hes just doin what he has to do its a big shock for them to be outside the womb so be calm hes goin to be a lil more active in a few weeks!! good luck and congratulations.

  20. No, that's pretty much all he's gonna do for the first few weeks. My baby did the same thing and she's four months now and won't sit still or go to sleep. I assure you, once your baby gets more active you'll wish that your baby would act the same as he did as a newborn at least one more time. Good Luck

  21. babies sleep 18 - 20 hrs a day, this is normal for a new bor.

As long as he has 8 wet diapers throught the day and gaining proper weight he is doing fine. Keep up the good work... Trust me when he gets more active you're going to miss him sleeping that much!!! so rest mom!! =)

  22. that's totally normal.

as he gets older you'll see he gradually sleeps less and is more awake and active.

good luck with the new baby =]

  23. I've got 4 kids. Don't worry. That's what most newborns do. Sleep, sleep and sleep somemore. If I were you I'd try to get some sleep too. Pretty soon he'll be up all night. Have fun!

  24. Nope.  He's doing exactly what a newborn is supposed to be doing.  Enjoy it while you can because it won't be long until he does start staying awake more and more!

  25. Congrats on your baby boy!!

Newborns typically sleep for 16-20 hours a day and may be awake for no more than 2 hours at a time. I have a 3 week old baby boy and he is just now starting to wake up more often and for longer. He still LOVES to sleep though :)

  26. All babies do is eat, sleep, and p**p.  Especially when they're so little like he is.

Don't worry new mommy, everything is fine :)

    Congrats and good luck!

  27. let him sleep thats all they do for the first few months

  28. Thats about all they do at that age is eat, sleep and p**p...your baby is normal..congrats

  29. it is normal for a long time. I have not had a baby around for years but maybe you can ask another question & see if someone can give you a link to what to expect at each month or age or stage.

  30. no thats totally normal. Our son did that until he was almost a month old. He is 4 and a half now. It sucks because you really want to play with them and have them realize who you are. You just have to be patient and enjoy the sleep while you can. I stay at home with my son while my wife works. He always wants to play now. Very soon you will be able to play with him all the time. He is normal though. Hope this helped.

  31. No need to worry. His routine fit's all the cliche descriptions of a baby that age. My son was the same... if he wasn't sleeping, he was eating, pooping, or crying.
