  1. my son has the same problem and doctors put him on all this garbage that costs allot of money and doesn't work including suppositories. i'm a naturist i don't like medications. i give my son prune juice then half and hour later there is a surprise for me in his diaper.

  2. Dont give the baby anything unless you consult your dr first.  Most babies strain and turn red and grunt.  Thats normal.  If your baby screams while doing this they may be constipated, or if the p**p is pellet like or hard.  It should be very mushy, not formed.

    Best of luck :)

  3. My son did this.  He eventually had a bm after i gave him a little baby prune juice (about an ounce).  Later I found out he would grunt often then later with every bm.  I do not think that the grunting is that bad bc babies also need to learn what the pushing does, but as for my son, he stopped grunting about a month ago and he is 19 months!  I always knew when i had poopie diapers.  Now he seems about ready 4 potty training.  Instead of grunting to let me know he had dirty diapers now he grabs his diper.  after a while it comes to u naturally.  ur a great mom!  it shows bc ur concerned!  if u feel like no one else is any help call the doc or the hospital.  the nurses in labor and delivery are also great help.

It is important to know, however, that almost all infants grunt, groan and turn red at this moment. Remember, they have to p**p while lying down, without the assistance of gravity. Therefore, if they seem to have a hard time passing, but what comes out is soft, it is most likely to be normal.

At around the age of six weeks, the stooling pattern of a breastfed baby may change. It is not uncommon for the breastfed baby to skip days between bowel movements. Some babies skip every other day, some go every two or three days, some once every 5 - 7 days, and some babies hold out for up to 11 or 12 days at a time - then have quite a FULL diaper when they DO go!

There is absolutely no reason to intervene and try methods commonly used to "induce" a bowel movement (such as prune or other types of juices, water, glycerin suppositories, or using rectal stimulation). If artificial stimulation is done too often, the baby's system can become dependant upon this stimulation to "go", and no longer is able to have a normal bowel movement on their own.

In most cases, as long as baby is not acting ill (lethargic, crying in pain, etc.), the tummy is soft, not rigid or distended, skipping days between stools is not cause for alarm, however, mother should not hesitate to ask her health care provider to check her baby to be sure there is no physical problem.

  5. No deff not normal, my Daughter had the same thing when I put her on Formula, The Clinic nurse told me to put half a teaspoon of brown suger in her bottle this seemed to help, you can also get coloxel drops from the pharmacy to put in the bottle they work really well.

    Hope this helps:)

  6. No. Too much straining is not normal, espeically if she is crying at the same time. How old is she? My daughter was constipated at 4 weeks of age and my paediatrician suggested to give her a few oz of water (either sterilized water or bottled water) each day. After a few days of the water she went back to normal. She is 4 months now and I still give her water everyday, and there have been no problems since.

My paediatrican also suggested Pro Biotic drops to give her everyday to regulate her digestive system. These drops also work well for colics. They are called Bio Gaia probiotic drops and they sell them over the counter at the drug store.

  7. Your baby can go 7 days with out having a poo if she is being breast fed. I used to massage my little girls tummy and move her legs up and down. I used to also give you warm boiled water in a cup and give her a warm bath, that used to help move her poos along. But always when you are concerned have a chat to your doctor or your child and maternal health nurse

  8. Yes, it's normal...My daughter did the same thing...Then she started screaming really bad when she did finally make a bowel movement...the doctor told me to give her 1oz apple juice (Juicy Juice) and 1oz water mixed together...I did and she was fine...I thought she was a little young to have juice and water but it turned out ok...You should still take her to be seen just to be on the safe side...

  9. It may not be anything.  Babies still are learning to push it out.  Just because they're straining doesn't mean they're constipated.  If the p**p is hard / firm when it comes out, then you may be dealing with constipation or if it's more than a week.  But if she's pooping every day or few days, and it's soft to runny, yellow (if breast feeding) - darker if not) then it's just fine.   Hold her cuddle her.  Newborns need lots of care.  You can't hold them too much at this stage.  You can try holding her and rubbing her tummy lightly.  Might help, might make her feel better.

Might want to burp her to relieve gas.

Is she otherwise happy?  Or is she fussing/crying a lot, fever?  Hard bloated looking belly?  You might want to call your doctor / nurse and ask then.

  10. Call the doc. You may need to use a suppository, or there are some other options.

  11. Put a small amount of Karo syrup in her bottle. Works like magic.

  12. newborns put a lot of effort into doing a poo. it is totally normal. until my son was 3 month old he was killing my nerves sometimes when doing one. they go sometimes red in their faces and sometimes even cry. as long as the poo is soft and has the right color do not worry. what was helping us was feeding him some fennel tea via bottle. you can buy instant baby fennel tea  also know as breast-feeding tea. you can feed this tea from 1st week on. i was breast-feeding and it never confused him taking the bottle with tea. if you can not find the instant baby tea use a normal tea bag from a health care store (an organic one)and prepare as recommended. the fennel relaxes their tummies. my son loved drinking it while doing a poo and it would come out quicker and with less effort as the sucking and warm water relaxes them. it was helping him also when having gas. also sucking on a dummy helps them. you can push her legs up and down towards her tummy too when she tries to make one. breastfeed babies are rarely constipated. formula feed babies poo is a bit firmer but also just some warm water in between if they are having a harder poo then normal will help. if you are breast feeding you can also drink fennel tea as your baby will become it too through your milk. my son is now 4 month and still makes pushing noises when doing a poo but it is less disturbing him and happens quicker. he even sometimes spills out milk when doing one right after feeding. milk will come out of nose and mouth. it looks scary first time but is harmless and happens sometimes.she will grow out of it as older she becomes...
