My question is that how does the F-1 visa approved looks like? I have read some many informations that the visa is a stamp in the passport, but I dont know that if it because the status has been changed inside the usa, that the approved stamp was on the I-20 and not in the passport. Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks.

  1. If she recieved a valid i-120 she is fine.  She should also have an approval letter from the USCIS

  2. You're right. A visa is placed on a page of a passport. If your niece entered the U.S. with another class of visa and then applied for a change of status to F-1, she would not receive another visa on another page of her passport.

She would receive a notification that her application to change status was approved. It's a Notice of Action. It's Form I-797.

If she leaves the U.S., she will need her I-20 and the I-797 to obtain a new F-1 visa to return to the U.S. for the purpose of study.
