Okay, so my niece is 11 and a half, and shes been having all these period symptoms. She's had yellow, & white discharge for a few months, and cramps. Then, all of the sudden, no more discharge, no more cramps, and still no period yet. I dont remember when my sister got it (her mom), and nor does she D: Anyone think you can help me out? Thanks xx

  1. I've been web surfing, hoping to find a good reference about the early signs of menstruation for you, but haven't had much luck.  I imagine that she is starting to have some signs of puberty.  The references I read insisted that the start of female puberty involves breast budding first, then developing pubic hair and then menstruation last.  If she does have the first two- any signs at all, then, yes, her body could be making its way towards her first period.

As periods can be irregular for the first three years for a girl, it makes sense that the signs she is having would also be irregular, as her hormones are just starting to elevate and cause all those lovely changes from girl to pubescent to fully developed.

The average ages for getting one's first period is 12-15 in the US, although earlier onset, say at age 11 isn't unheard of.  It seems that she is likely to be on the younger side than the older side for getting her period.

This book is suggested for a youngster with questions about puberty and the changes that take place at that time.  It has been recognized as a pretty good book- this might help her along:

  2. It really depends how long its bean since the last batch of these symptoms.... If its past a month and a half Go to the doctors.

Otherwise ,wait she might just be preparing for her period in a couple of weeks ect. By the way yellow discharge isnt normal its a sign of infection. So eitherway she needs to be checked out !

    Hope I was helpful !!! : )

  3. Well it does sound lik shes getting ready to have her period but i cant besure cause i havent got mine yet soo... but one way to figure out when shes going to hav it is mayb ask your mom ( her grandma) or your dad ( her grandpa) when she started her period, but i suggest u ask ur mom first she'll know definately =] and mayb go to the dictor, cause they can tell you around the time your going to have it,or atleast if your close =] hopethis helps and goodluck!! =]

  4. Don't listen to "Gee x x x",there is no reason to go to the doctor.  I had discharge, pubic hair, and underarm hair for at least two years before I got My period.  Though she could only have those for a month and get it.  The month Before I got mine I got really bad cramps, and was either not hungary at all, or eating all the time!  If she doesn't have hair it will probably be a while.  Tell her to pack pads with her to school just in case, and a extra pair of undies!  I hope I helped you, Good luck!

  5. She is only 11, its not like she is late or anything with getting it. If she gets to about 15 and she still doesn't have it, then maybe she can start worrying about it a bit more. But at 11, there's really nothing to worry about yet. With the discharge, for some people they get discharge for a few months then start their period, for other girls it may be years. For me I started getting discharge at 12 and it wasn't until I was 14 that I actually got my first period. It is different for every girl and there is no one rule that can be applied to all girls.

  6. Thats definitely signs of your period. She could not get it until months from now though. I was 11 when I started mine,so it isnt unatural.

She can be from 8-16 until she gets hers, and on average girls dont start until 14 years old.

Tell her to bring a pad to school just in case, and when she has discharge, she may want to wear one anyways.
