My niece is 11 years old, and she just told me she is dating a 7th grader?

My niece is 11 years old and she just told me she is dating a 7th grader. I asked her if she told her parents, and she said she did, but something about her telling me this is bothering me. I get the feeling that maybe my brother doesn't know that the boy she is "dating" is a 7th grader. Perhaps my niece told him she only liked him, either way I basically have to go with her word. Should I be worried that she is 11 years old and dating a 7th grade boy?

well isnt that only a year older? i dont think its that bad, but if you really are worried then you could always go and talk to your brother about it and see what he says.

im too lazy to think right now about ages but if shes in the 6th grade, i think its fine. i knew quite a few people who were like that. if shes a 5th grader then... thats just messed up.

at 11 years old your nice should not date a 7Th grader,speak with your brother its the right thing to do. Let her parents handle the situation I'm sure they don't approve.

I don't think so. Guys are generally two years behind girls emotionally. As long as your niece seems responsible, you shouldn't worry. When I was in the 7th, the guys still played with Transformers and barely reached 5'0''.

Most 7th graders are about 12, maybe 13. That's not a big difference. Most 12 year old boys still play with Hot Wheels sometimes. Now, when she tells you she's dating a freshman....worry!

Umm... 7th graders are 12-13. This early in the year, he is likely only 12. SO thats one year difference. I wouldn't worry at all. That seems normal.

No, it's puppy love.  How much "dating" can two people this young do.  They will just do the typical "we are going out" thing.  Don't worry about it.  We were all that age once.  It looks cool to brag about it at her age.

Well there is a few ways you could look at the situation.

One way would be to talk to your niece or her parents (her parents would probably be a better idea) and try to make sure the boy is a nice boy, but in the 7th grade there shouldn't be too much worry.

The boy is probably 12-13 years old, probably 12 right now and turning 13 sometime soon? I wouldn't be too worried about it because there's only a small age difference, Now if it was her and a 9th grader, maybe even 8th grader I'd be worried. I've seen many situations where people would date 2 years younger, it's like a Junior in HS dating a Freshman.

I know she's not in HS but I see your situation as better than her being in HS dating an older boy because this way it is probably less serious and it'd be a smaller relationship. So I don't think it's something to get too worked up about, but you'd probably feel better if you knew a little something about the boy she's dating.

7th grader hella no! im in high school but i've been with 7th grades toutoring them do you know what those jerks have in there head only one thing and you and i both know. tell your brother and tell him its bothering u! if hes a good dad/brother he'll take action fast

And besides, for these kid's they don't really do stuff together they may sit  together during classes or go see a movie, but I am pretty sure it will only last a week.................

no dont be worried. 7th graders arent much older than 11 yr olds. only like 1 or 2 years older.  and they are too young to being worried abut them having s*x and stuff. young kids like that barely even talk when they say they dating haha. they just say hi in the halls and the most they will do is hug. so dont worry. its when shes older is when u have to worry.

he's just a year ahead of her.  If she is 11 then she should be in 6th grade.  Then again, what she is calling dating may only be her having lunch at school with him.  For that matter, the boy may not even be aware that they "dating".

if you are concerned then talk to her parents about it.
