My nikon coolpix L12 has stopped turning on completley?

A friend recently accidentally kicked the lens of my Nikon Coolpix L12 camera and at first it read Lens Error, but then it continued working correctly. Now, the camera won't turn on and the lens is stuck with and the little window in the center of the lens is stuck halfway open. how long does a warranty last for this camera [from best buy] and if its expired, how can i get it fixed or replaced and about how much would it cost for each? which is a better option between the two..repairing or replacing?

  1. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.  Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

    Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:
