  1. I don't know to much about child rearing although I have been around family and friends with their babies and it seems to me that generally by that age a nine month old should have a fair control of their neck muscles, but some babies develop quicker than others whilst some slower than others. If it was a Friend that has said to you that your child has poor muscle control I would disregard their comment and take your baby to a doctor and then if your not happy with their opinion get a second even a third opinion.

To me and I'm just a layman it sounds as though your child may have cerebral palsy

  2. some children have low muscle tone and are a bit floppy  and some have high muscle tone and are very tight and solid.

Mine had slightly low muscle controll so when i picked up my friends baby who had very high muscle tone it was so weird!  he was like a plastic doll and his arms and legs stayed where they were while my son was a bit more like a raggy doll!

you wouldn't know now though, now they are 10.  Allthough it's funny when mine tries to 'get' my friends kid, with arms and legs flying everywhere and my friends kid just calmly holds him off with one hand!!

there are things you can do for him to build his muscle strength, like going swimming,.

Try not to leave him in pushchair too long.  He needs time to have freedom of movement on the floor with things to reach for push toys are good.some times talk to him from the side

to encourage him to turn his head to you.

You could ask your docs what they recomend and wether he need further intervention.

  3. Hey um i did learn about the stages of development (studying child care), i think it was within the first 6 months that they can hold thier heads up themselves. You should go to a doctor who specialises in this and ask them what exercises etc. you can do to help along ur child's development. Good luck. xo

  4. Hypotonia is a condition of abnormally low muscle tone (the amount of tension or resistance to movement in a muscle), often involving reduced muscle strength. Hypotonia is not a specific medical disorder, but a potential manifestation of many different diseases and disorders that affect motor nerve control by the brain or muscle strength. Recognizing hypotonia, even in early infancy, is usually relatively straightforward, but diagnosing the underlying cause can be difficult and often unsuccessful. The long-term effects of hypotonia on a child's development and later life depend primarily on the severity of the muscle weakness and the nature of the cause. Some disorders have a specific treatment but the principal treatment for most hypotonia of idiopathic or neurologic cause is physical therapy to help the person compensate for the neuromuscular disability.

Hypotonia is a condition that can be helped with early intervention.

  5. How about baby swimming to strenghten his muscles?
