I am a US citizen, my boyfriend is Mexican and recently received his green card to be here. I want to marry him but he said the lawyer that helped him get this card said he shouldn't marry for 12 years? That does not sound right. I am interested in knowing if anybody has heard such a thing that they can enlighten me on when i can marry my boyfriend. So my question is once you receive your green card status, how long (if any) do you have to wait to marry a US citizen?

  1. Marry him now and take him for all he is worth.

I hate men!  All they do is use you to wash their dirty underwear and take your money.

    I need a Midol bad!

  2. He can get married immediately.  No problem.  He's lying to you.  He most likely has a wife in Mexico.

  3. If he's single, not another single second.

If he's married, well, honey I think you have your answer.

He's blowing smoke up your backside.

  4. i think hes married to someone in mexico and cant make a commitment to you. until he divorces her... better chek him out better..

  5. Number one= as a us citizen you have the right to marry anybody you like, legal or illegal as long as they are not married, don't believe the 12yr. b/s, i married my wife a mexican national while she was here on a tourist visa, after marriage we applied for her "green card" and received it within 8 mos. I have a feeling this fellow is either married in mexico or he just plain does'nt want you for a wife. Good luck

  6. As far as I know you don't have to wait a second.  Are you sure he really wants to marry you?  It sounds like he's using the lawyer as an excuse to avoid commitment.  I think you are being played.  Perhaps your novio is already someone else's marido.

  7. Well, I tend to agree with Yak Rider on this. There's no legal reason under US immigration law for him to wait 12 years now that he has a green card. So, there's another explanation that he doesn't want to share. And the fact that he isn't telling you his real reason is very problematic at best. I think the only real question is, how bad is the real reason?

  8. if you are a citizen and he is here legally there is no reason for you not being able to marry.  you can marry absolutely.
