Question:

My nutrition teacher is failing me because she's brainwashed to think that genetically modified food is good?!

I presented my project to class the other day, which I did extensive research on genetically modified food. For some quick facts, check out www.cqs.com/50harm.htm ...growth hormones in our meats (most Americans are fat...),antibiotics in our milk,pesticides/herbicides being gene spliced into our crops so we can't even wash them off anymore because they're actually GROWN INTO them, etc. After I finished presenting, someone asked a question and while I was answering the teacher rudely interrupted me, answering it falsely. I included lab tests, scientists quotes, even some science into my paper, she claims I don't have science. I told the class that the FDA doesn't require labeling for GMO's, because then no one would want to buy them. Which is what happened in the UK.Monsanto, one of the biggest GMO companies out there, donates a large portion of money to the FDA. Put two and two together.

I don't want to fail for exposing the truth.

What can I do to prove her wrong? Who should I talk to?

  1. While I disagree with you about genetically modified food, I certainly don't think you should receive a failing grade for taking a position that your teacher opposes. You obviously have done extensive reading and put an admirable amount of work in your project. You should remind your teacher of this, face to face at first. If he/she does not relent, state your case in writing and send a copy to the principal with a comment of approval from your parents.

  2. HA! I was just about to say "Tell her to look into Monsanto"! They are the biggest racket ever..That's ok..One world order one world food supply, one world store at which to buy the one world food...YOure on the right track..Good for you! Dont stop!

  3. I would say that as long as you have documented references from real scientific journals (not just random online websites or things like  a health magazine for example) that she can't fail you.

You'll have to wait until you get your grade back, then first talk to her, explain your side of the story & why you feel you need a better grade, & if that doesn't work, talk to the head of the science department or school principal

  4. Unfortunately for you, she is right.  Your sources (based on the one example) are poor / biased choices.  The net result is you based your report on incorrect information and YOU got brainwashed.

Now, you shouldn't be marked down just for that, but she should have required you to read references for both sides of the question.  Then, you would have been more able to provide a balanced, reasoned opinion even if it differed from hers.

PS.  NO company "donates" to the FDA.  The FDA is funded by Congress and by fees that are assessed to companies when the FDA reviews their products.  Just one example of how your research is faulty.

  5. Did you see the French documentary The world according to Monsanto? I was going to give you the link but it appears to have been pulled. If you can find it on line, download and save it. Then have the teacher play it for the class instead of some time wasting end of the year movie.

Maybe next year you could take on the Cholesterol Myth.LOL

  6. You should get points for doing your research and presenting in class. Her opinion should not be her basis to fail you. It's unfair and very unprofessional of her. You don't need to prove her wrong--- you need to report her.

  7. I know the battle you are facing.  It is monstrous.  Big money doesn't talk, it SCREAMS.  Monsanto is a terrible, terrible company that has profit over health as their mantra and is one of the companies leading this charge of GMO food.

Be assured that the survival of our species is at risk with what a few big corporations are doing to our food supply.  Many countries in the world have banned GMO foods and are stopping many imports of American foods due to this issue.

This is NOT a trivial issue.  You are very correct to take the position you are taking.  There are some very good films that are being distributed now that talk about GMO foods.  A very good web site to look at is:   www.mercola.com

A very good film by "lily films" was produced that describes the GMO problem and is very well done.  It is $25 to purchase it and gives a lot of information as to how GMO foods have been slipped by the public and are now causing huge medical issues that are NON traceable thanks to the FDA that is headed by ex-Monsanto executives.  Additionally, over 50% of all of the FDA employees are ex-Monsanto employees.  Everywhere else in the world, GMO foods are required to be labeled, but not in America.  This has created a situation where no one can trace the problems caused by them back to the source!

To get good science, buy that film and watch it.  Then tell your teacher that she needs to look at both sides and not carry a bias that is not scientifically founded.

The film can be had at:  www.thefutureoffood.com       Be sure to locate the icon that says, "Home Use" to get the $25 price.

There is another good film called "We feed the world" that is very good as well.  Don't give up.  There are a lot of teachers that were "C" students when they went to school.

    good luck to you.

  8. What you might have to do is to attach some actual computer printouts to your paper which include scientific evidence.

There is plenty of scientific evidence in a web search for "genetically modified foods" + "health effects".

Unfortunately some people are too brainwashed to even know they are brainwashed and perhaps she will never change her views on the grounds that these scientific reports are fabricated by brainwashed scientists and if that is what she believes perhaps there is nothing you can do.

There are none so blind as those who will not see and unfortunately the world is full of such people.  Some people can not be convinced no matter what the evidence shows because they don't want to be convinced.

  9. I would also say talk to the pricipal...and as for all of you that are saying she's brainwashed, YOU are the ones brainwashed. Not to be rude just telling the truth and stating the facts. She is 100% correct about what the FDA is doing. and what is in our food. I personally eat organic, so all I can say is i guess some people will just stay in denial. anyways, good luck! you don't deserve to fail...isn't it funny how we get in trouble for telling the truth...??? :)

  10. looks like the teacher is way over her head with you as a pupil; you're one smart cookie

ans she knows it; so she tries to act rudely and interrupts you; because she knows you have more  information then she can handle.

  11. i've had this happen to me before.

talk to your principal or vice-principal. that's what i did. you might get her in trouble but it's your grades you have to worry about. it worked for me!

some teachers think they know everything when in fact they don't. she sounds like an ignorant fool...

  12. Okay, I know some of these responses are discouraging...I support you 100%.    While you feel strongly about this particular subject, I would suggest lightening up a bit.  The truth can't stay hidden forever.   Even if you do get a crappy grade, other students in your class have now been exposed to a new way of thinking about thier food.   One step at a time.

By the way...it is frustrating finding good info out there.  It seems that just about anyone is willing to be "paid off" and destroy the "good guys" credibility.

    Keep on shining!

  13. First rule of internet research. Never never never use .com websites. .com stands for commerical. Always use .gov or .edu websites. If you didn't or got a majority of your research from .com or .net websites she could fail you and it would be fair to do so.

  14. Suit yourself.... ::munches on some genetically enhanced super food.::

::suddenly huge muscles explode all over my body as I turn and walk away.::

  15. On the one hand, your facts are wrong. That website http://www.cqs.com/ was started by a guy with absolutely no qualifications whatsoever. That is not a reliable source of information. Also, the FDA does not accept donated money as you suggest.

Your teacher probably contradicted you on the facts, and you took it personally. That is understandable and it happens a lot. That having been said, going to seek out revenge on a bad teacher can be a lot of fun! You can send letters to principals demanding the teacher's resignation, and send written letters signed by your parents threatening to change schools, get all worked up, etc etc for nothing. It probably won't change your grade.

A better approach would be to get some better sources of information (ie peer-reviewed articles), and then write a page-long report about how you feel that you got an unfair mark based on your stance. If your teacher takes pity on you, you will get some bonus marks.

The amount of energy you will spend getting worked up is not worth it, since it will probably hurt you in the long run when the teacher grades your next assignment. It will take you less energy to try to show respect to the teacher by writing a nice letter with your new report.
