I work in a small office (less than 25) and I want to start recycling the mounds of waste we come up with. (Paper and plastic mainly) I've searched online in depth and cannot find a local place to bring our recycling to. I don't believe the boss will find it cost effective to have a service come at a cost, so I offered to drop it off. Other than take it home (which I do now) does anyone know of a place near Aurora, IL?

  1. Great idea! My husband did this for his past employer too...just not large enough of a business to justify the cost.

Check out http://www.earth911.org for drop off locations in your area. I did a search for plastic recycling locations in Aurora, IL and it looks like there's a recycling center at 1565 Aurora Avenue Lane, Aurora, IL 60504, (630) 897-5665 where you can drop off recyclables on Wednesday Noon to 6pm and Saturday 8:30am to 3:30pm.

    Good luck!

  2. To recycle your cardboard boxes, go to Freecycle.com.  This is another Yahoo group where people take things that others are giving away for free.  The group is free to join and they have them in many areas.

I frequently give away cardboard boxes on Freecycle to people who need them for moving.  They come and pick up the boxes; in return, they don't have to waste money on buying new ones.

  3. In our area, the local trash company that we are already paying for offers recycling bins for free.

If paper is your main issue, there is a company that places large dumpsters at schools called a "paper retreiver".  It raises money for the location using the service.  This is a list of locations near you that have the paper retrievers.  Taking your paper to one of these places will help them raise money.  Here is a list of the places near you:

That would make an excellent start to your efforts, and at the same time help students too!

  4. That's a great idea, find away to make a profit from your waste generated by your small small company.do you pay a recycle value at purchase, in your state for plastic bottles and aluminum cans like in California? all that money adds up at the end,the business can put it towards a company, lunch buffet, summer picnic,Christmas party etc.

  5. I was the facilities supervisor for a small engineering firm that had 150 employees. We did not generate enough material to justify overhead hours for employees to save and recycle materials at local recycle centers. We inturn hired a local recycle firm to shred our paper and the local sanitation company took the plastic bottles and aluminum cans. We figured that after six months we would have nearly $85 saved in aluminum...so it was not worth our effort to do it ourselves. Good luck.
