But I want to fix it.

So here's what happened: it got a virus, so I overreacted and wiped the system. Then when I ran the system recovery disc. It wasn't successful...

So then I tried to partition the hard drive (completely wipe it) and when it was around halfway done, the bar froze. I let it do it's thing. It did finish, and I ran the system recovery disc again, but to no avail!

Do I have to get a new hard drive or what?

(Intelligent responses only, please!)

  1. download or get a friend to download " Hirens Boot cd "

burn to disk set your computer to boot from cd run the disk it has a lot of different programs on it for recovery

You need  the partition magic one to clear old partitions and create new ones

there are also ones to reset master boot record recommend you use first as the master boot record on your hard drive could be corrupted

  2. well if your recovery disks arent working, you are left with no choice but to take a OS disk, full not an upgrade (retail 180$$ for win vista) tigerdirect.com, or try to find a copy online via torrents (ilegal but if you have no choice.. isohunt.com) you burn the iso file with infrarecorder which is free. BEST OPTION buy an os disk, or get one by some form of intellect! and get your system back to running. id reccomend win xp.

you can run ubuntu or other linux distros for free untill you can get a copy of windows if its that big of a deal. I highly doubt your hard disk is broken.
