My optican wants me to try acuvue contacts because they are supposed to be better for my eyes. I'm not sure if a different bc and dia will make a difference in the wat they fit.

  1. From an 8.6 to an 8.3 is a big difference.

The diameter won't affect anything, but the base curve will.

With a trial pair fitting in his office , you will both know in a few minutes if it works or not.

If the 8.6 was fitting right, it is doubtful an 8.3 will.

But Acuvue also come in 8.7 which is the same as 8.6

The base curves fit 1/10 either side.

  2. Yes, there is a great differ. get back to the one that ur using or use some lenses that have about the same bc and everything.

  3. That's why a trial would be needed.  and why the brand is part of the Rx in a contact lens fitting.

The base curve and diameter doesn't go very far to specifying the fit without the detail of the particular brand, which implicitly specifies the associated back-surface geometry.

There is no absolute assurance that one manufacturer's 8.6 14.00 will fit the same as another's (anymore than one 2.5 litre 4x4  will be the same from Ford and GM!) though, as many soft lens fittings are fairly forgiving on measurements, there's a reasonable chance they will both perform adequately.

This is why the brand is part of the Rx in a contact lens fitting, and not something for the wearer to choose for themselves afterwards, rather as they would a spectacle frame, for colour or cost.
