My old mails to a friend (2 years or older) do not come up in searches although they are saved in my inbox.Why

In my Inbox I have a few hundred mails which are saved. For some reason when I search for a specific sender only the mails from the past few month show. I would like to see all the mails from this sender, even if they date from a few years back.

some of my mail ended up in the trash when Yahoo changed its mail... check there first...
