momentos out of his home, some which are valuable (WWII) and sentimental things too. When I tell my father I would like something to remember the family by as well he accuses me of being materialistic and says " All things vanish with time" I am at a loss and hurt by his response. Any suggestions?

  1. ask  here  why

  2. Your elderly father is probably just as hurt as you are by this situation. The fact is though she is there and at his age he probably feels that he can't afford to make her angry because then who will be there? I know you are probably at a loss because you do not have the same freedom to visit and care for his needs as does your sister. You need to have a conversation with her and if she is unreasonable about it, contact a lawyer. the fact is these things don't belong to either of you. But I do understand, we are going through the same thing with my step brother . But they are there and I can't be.

  3. Maybe she is just trying to save him from the gold diggers.

  4. Obvioulsy, he gave them to her or he'd be upset about it.  Get over it.
