May I suggest you check out the four books written by Niall Williams (an Irishman) who married an American (Christine Breen), who moved back to Ireland from New York where they were working.  The books are a little dated now (90's), but still may provide some insight.

They are:

The Luck of the Irish.

I know what you mean... I have the same wish... Ever thought about doing what you can in the mean time? I.e. Study abroad..

I am going to be living and going to school in Ireland for a year starting in August. Its a great way to start out something like wish and its totally worth the $$$...

You should look into it..

There are tons of different programs to use. Im going with EF (education first) But thats only because it worked best for you. Maybe TWU (two worlds united) is best for you.. Or PIE (pacific intercultural exchange)

Check them out.. It will be a great experience!
