My son is almost 15 months and is taking forever to learn how to walk! He is pretty good at holding onto the wall or coffee table or how hand and walk but he won't try on his own. Any suggestions to help the proses? We also have some little trucks that has a tall handle for him to hold onto and walk with. He has been doing this for about two months now. We also use a walker too.

  1. My son is 14 1/2 mths old and was like that up until nearly two weeks ago...I thought he was taking forever..and then he suddenly decided to play game of walking between me and my fiance..we were standing in opposite sides of the room, so he did that, and then ever since that day he just walks around on his own. he still crawls and holds onto the wall when he feels a little bit wobbly, but otherwise is walking well. sometimes he falls down cuz he goes too fast or gets tired.

He sounds fine, just don't push him, and only walk with him casually sometimes and not every time he asks. He'll get determined and then do it on his own.

  2. I've heard that if you have him hold on to the handles of wooden spoons (like he holds on to your fingers when he walks), and hold the other end, then eventually you can let go of your end and he'll keep walking - much like training wheels on a bike, if that makes sense.  I've suggested this to a few friends, though, and none of them have said it works... but it's worth a try!  :)

  3. unfortunately some kids take longer to learn walking than others.  he sounds like he's progressing fairly well -- at least he's holding onto stuff and trying that way.  He should be trying on his own within the next few months.  I think my sister and I didn't start walking until about that time (around 18 months).  But if he's not walking by then, maybe ask your pediatrician for some guidance.  Hey, maybe use the ol' stick and carrot routine -- hold out a favorite toy and see if he'll walk to you for it.

  4. sometimes they wont even start walkin till they r 2. but its not like theres ne thing wrong. just try and encourage him more =] help him out!!

  5. Well stop using the walker for starters.  They say that can hinder learning to walk.  The other things are fine.  Our son took about that long to walk and we think he was actually walking sooner, but not letting us see him.  I caught him taking a couple steps and as soon as he noticed me watching he'd fall down.  He was an only child at the time and I think he liked the attention.  I actually thought there was something wrong with him but our doctor told us to wait until 16 months to run any tests and sure enough he walked right before he was 16 months old.  He's almost there.  Just be patient, he'll walk when he's ready.
