About two weeks ago one of my two tiger oscars had a few cysts on his right pectoral fin from ich, so i treated with an ich med and that went extremely well but now along the edge of the fin in question right around where the parasites were, is slowly and i mean slowly deteriorating. its has only ran around the edge and hasnt really moved toward the body at all. all info on this is definately appreciated.....

Is this fin rot? i thought fin rot made fins more shredded looking...

  1. could be another fish thats nibbling it. if it was fin rot I think you would see the rot on the fin (white stuff on the edge)

see how it is and if it gets alot worse then try posting a picture onto an oscar forum or something to see if someone else can identify it

  2. Most Ich medications contain malachite green, formalin, and/or copper, all of which will devastate a tank's biological filter (ammonia>nitrite>nitrate).  When this happens, ammonia levels will spike as the tank re-cycles, and this poor water quality can leave chemical burns on the fish.  More frequent water changes would be a very good idea.

  3. Most likely fin rot, caused by poor water qualities, maybe cuz of the ich medicine made the water quality crash??
