  1. melafix isnt meant for ick..its for tail/fin rot, ect..use any ick treatment that  turn the water blue or green those work best and raise your temp to 80-82 degrees it speeds up the ick life cycle make a 25 % water change too. be careful with the scaleless fish they can overdose on it..use half doses instead..and that pennies idea is crazy it can kill the fish because of the copper

  2. get ick killer any store that sells fish besides walmart should have it a couple drops and your fish will be fine

  3. I have found that the best way to cure ich is to raise the temperature of the tank to 86 degrees.  Do this slowly, no more than 2 degrees an hour.  Leave the temp at 86 for 10 (ten) days.  The ich parasite has a lifespan of 7 days and does not breed at temps above 85 degrees.

It will take a few days, but the white spots (the actual parasites) will drop off and not reappear.  After 10 days (mark it on the calendar) you can slowly drop the temp back to where you normally keep it for your fish.

You really need to be careful medicating the tank with the smooth skinned cats (channel and pictus), they are more susceptible to overdosing than fish with scales.  I use as little medication as possible, and always treat ich with the heat method.

  4. Go to a Petco or something like that - they sell medicine that you can put in the water to get rid of ick. I think it's even called Rid-Ick. It's a red fizzie that you put in the water.

  5. ick is very Dangerous . First thing change your Filter than two days after preform a water tank change , and get a water test done , than add the melafix as directed on the bottle . Than id that doesn't work try switching brands .

  6. They sell some ick medication, you just add some drops of it to the water.  I can't really remember how much but for ick you can also add pennies to the tank for a few days till the ick disappears, its the copper in the pennies, that does it.  Its been years since I had a tank but I do remember the pennies for ick.
