Question:

My other baby hamster just died =[?

Hi, one of my 5 week old hammies just died about 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure why,but its too late now.

Now today my other baby hamster died. (I have another one, about 2 1/2 months old.) My baby died of dirreah. So do you know why?

  1. If they are syrian hamsters, they could have had wet tail. The diarrhea is one pointer that turns the suspicion towards wet tail. If all the hammies were in the same cage, the chances of wet tail spreading is very high. As a preventative measure, I would advise you to take the surviving baby hamster which is 2.5 months old to a vet to put him/her on preventive antibiotics to ensure that he/she has not picked up the diarrhea or wet tail from the other hamsters which died.

    If they are dwarf hamsters, they would have an equally lethal diarrhea which is also infectious and taking the surviving one to a vet would help prevent the same in her if she was in the same cage or in contact with the other hamsters in anyway.

  2. He/she had wet tail which is a disease that is deadly and can transfer easy too. Clean the cage! If your other hamster gets diarea then take her ot the vet right away! Wet tail can take a hamsters life within 24 hours.
