Question:

My outdoor plants have fluff on them??

I have various plants in a little plastic greenhouse in my back yard as I have no grass.

The plants are cucumbers, tomatoes, various herbs (chive included), chillis and strawberries.

However some of them have this green like fluff on them - I don't think it's greenfly although I did have this problem last week on my chives, but hot water got rid of them.

The fluff is on my chive + cucumbers mainly. And it seems to have made some of cucumbers turn to mush.

The fluff has little dark green dots in it too. Is it mould? I've put all my plants out of the greenhouse and on my window sill outside thinking it's mould, but it's not ideal as it's very windy.

  2. This infection has a very appropriate name, "Cucumber Gray Mold" it is apparently very common particularly in greenhouses. What you need to do from the outset is to regularly spray the plants with a good regular fungicide. Now that your crop has been infected it is late to save them, Disinfect your plastic greenhouse and leave it for several weeks empty. When you start again, you must spray all the plants regularly say once every 2 weeks with fungicide, through to harvest.

  3. Yes it is mould,You need more ventilation in your greenhouse.

  4. I suspect you may have a form of Botrytis mould. It is a soft fluffy greyish green colour especially prevalent as you describe in a moist, humid green house. Do a google search on the name and you'll find various bits of advice for various plants.
