I would like to open my own on-line business, I want to sell alot of things, I would like to keep my options open to sell anything the I'm familiar with. Like Bath and Body Products and candles. My question is, what is Drop ship service and is it a good idea? Or should I purchase from the manufacturer ? what web site should I use for my business: msn, ebay, auctions, etc ? I want to use a website a lot of people are familiar with. And is it a bad idea to sell too many different items ?

  1. I would suggest that you might want to check up whether any of your products are those popular products online or in various auction sites such as ebay. From there, zoom into that product and this will indirectly increase your chances of success.

You can take a look at http://www.bestauctionguideonline.com if you would want to learn how to find those popular products in ebay.

  2. Affiliate Marketing might be a good idea as you don’t buy or hold stock or need to find someone to do drop shipping or need to take payments you just promote products and get paid a commission. So you could become an affiliate for some bath and body product etc and promote them online, but you have to know what you are doing to make it work. Some online marketing techniques can be done for free others cost money.

You can learn about Affiliate Marketing by searching the Internet but you might find it useful to first read the article at http://www.squidoo.com/You-Can-Make-A-Li... .

Hope this info is relevant and helps.

  3. Some of the items you mention are already sold through various MLM organisations. They will give you the backup of a big organisation.

Drop shipping means that you don't have to handle the actual product at all - you sell it, the manufacturer does the packaging and despatch.

Ebay has got very greedy recently and is about to put up its fees again, severely penalising low volume sellers who don't qualify for the discounts. There are other online auction sites - just google for them.

I would tend to say - stick to just one or two items that you know are something that everyone uses and needs, and don't diversify too much. Don't get into anything that involves YOU holding stock if you can avoid it.
