  1. Poor thing try, using 1 or 2 cotton sheets on him, also install a shelter in his paddock, stable him or paddock him near some trees.

    GOOD LUCK!!

  2. yes they work, i have also used a fly spray with sunscreen !!

  3. Flysheets do a pretty good job when it comes to protection from sunburn....neck covers are also made by the manufacturers and can be attached to the fly sheets....put your horses fly mask on him and place sun burn protective ointment on his nose...he should do pretty well with this arrangement....another option is to turn your horse out in the very early morning for a couple of hours and then again at dusk for a few hours to keep him out of the sun's strongest rays.

Kensington makes a great flysheet as does Rambo.  They do have neck covers that will attach to their flysheets.....

  4. I have heard they help. I owned an overo paint a few years back, that blistered really bad on her face.  I used a childrens spf sunblock on her face and ears, and kept a cotton sheet on her when possible. Hope this helps.

  5. Yes, they do. I know from experience because I have a paint as well. First, you should put sunscreen on his face and nose. Just normal sunscreen for people will work. Then you can buy coat sprays with sunscreen that work as well. Vetrolin has a coat spray that has sunscreen that works really well. Then you can put on the fly sheet and you will be good to go!

  6. just use suncream

it sounds weird but if you get a higher factor and just rub it in on the lighter areas of the coat and he won't burn

it's suggested on your average color horses on their nose which is often very light and on white socks use it

also a white reflective UV rug should pro bally work

  7. a white fly sheet will help reflect the light, and they also sell horsey spray sun screen which you apply like flyspray and it helps protect them.

    good luck!

  8. I'm not sure about the fly sheets, but can you change his turnout schedule?  In the summertime, I keep my horses in the barn during the day and they're out all night.  I do this to keep them more comfortable with the temperature and the flies, but it would also work well for preventing sunburn.  The horses seem to prefer it since when they stay out 24/7, I usually find them all standing in the barn on hot days.

  9. Is he on alfalfa at all?

Sometimes this can be a reaction to legumes with paints and the horse needs to be pulled off of all legumes.

Just a thought.  But no clue on the UV sheets.
