My panasonic DMR-ES35V dvd recorder

my panasonic DMR-ES35V dvd recorder will not play or record any dvds. keeps comming up "no read". troubleshooting says that there is something wrong with the disc when it says this but the disc is fine and i have tried more than one. it does not spin the disc when u put it in it only makes a funny noise. was playing fine until i put a disc in to record and it said that it had to be formatted. i followed the prompts but now it wont do anything with any disc.
