My parakeet is pregnant. But she isn't going in the nesting box. What should I do?

She is with her mate. I don't think either of them have been in the box. Is there a way I can get at least my girl parakeet to go in there?

  1. She is NOT PREGNANT. Birds do not get pregnant. They lay eggs. Have you looked in the nest box? Are there eggs in it? She will stay in the nest box after she has finished laying the clutch if the eggs are fertile. I recommend you read up on budgies breeding habits and how to raise the babies.

  2. im pretty sure she'll go in there on her own.

  3. Often first time avian parents don't know what to do

and the hen will expell the egg or egg's onto the grate.

This is rather common and it happens.

No, nothing you can do and no, don't attempt to get her in the nest box or anything else.

Breeder's leave the breeding birds alone, except to feed and water and check to see if they are okay.

Other wise most breeding pair's will get spooked and kill the egg's or babies.

So stay away and leave them alone, excpet from a distance keep an eye on the hen in case she has trouble laying the egg or egg's.

If she doesm get her to an avian vet as fast as you can.
